HHSB offers free financial literacy program to schools

HHSB offers free financial literacy program to schools

For the Journal Review

Hoosier Heartland State Bank is proud to have provided online, remote-friendly financial education to local schools for nearly a decade — completely free of charge.

Students in Montgomery, Putnam, and Parke counties can prepare for financial independence through Banzai, a nationally recognized financial literacy program. With Banzai, students encounter real-world budgeting scenarios, from paying bills to managing surprise expenses like interest charges, overdraft fees, or parking tickets. They also learn about savings, auto loans, bank statements, and more.

“Banzai is a web-based program. Kids get their own accounts, and they work through assignments that are based on real life,” said Morgan Vandagriff, co-founder of Banzai. “But because HHSB is sponsoring it, local schools get it for free. More than ever, it’s important that kids develop sound financial skills to prepare them for the real world, and Hoosier Heartland State Bank realizes that and they’re doing something about it.”

Banzai’s digital learning experience is paired with printed workbooks and aligns with Indiana’s academic standards for personal finance education. The program can be accessed on any computer or mobile device, allowing teachers to monitor student progress from anywhere. With over 60,000 educators nationwide using the program, Banzai has become the largest financial literacy resource of its kind.

HHSB has invested more than just funding — they’ve contributed time, industry expertise, and banking tools to bring financial education to local classrooms and the wider community. They also host a series of youth classes in the spring and adult classes in the fall at the HHSB Success Center.

“At HHSB, we believe financial education is a foundation for lifelong success,” said Brad Monts, HHSB President and CEO. “By partnering with Banzai, we’re giving local students the tools they need to make smart financial decisions, now and in the future. It’s one more way we’re investing in the next generation and strengthening the communities we serve.”
